A debate sponsored by German actor’s guild IDS. Germany is well-known worldwide as union territory, home of Karl Marx, Social Democracy and the world’s largest labor union, ver.di. But amazingly, the entertainment sector remains virtually un-unionized, and the locals wield little power compared to the powerful Hollywood guilds, for example. Thus the talent associations are left to stage debates, publish guidelines and file petitions, such as the panel organized by acting umbrella org IDS at this year’s Filmfest. The panel consisting of local pols and prominent pubcaster rep Bettina Reitz (Bavarian Broadcasting BR) will debate the hot-button issue of all-rights encroachment on royalties. |
